Saint Macaire is a variety that originates and is scarcely planted in the Bordeaux region, France.
The rarity of this variety also extends to Australia and is limited to a handful of vineyard plantings, arguably one of the first plantings on the Cappello vineyard in Beelbangera where it is grown.
The variety is suited to the warm and dry Riverina region with ample sunlight, ripening hours throughout the growing period.
Saint Macaire produces darkly coloured fruit and is medium to late ripening. The Old Man's Block Saint Macaire is a darkly coloured red, with purple hues.
This wine is medium bodied with lifted violet and fragrant aromatics, a chocolate and plum palate with a subtle French oak background.
A tightly structured wine with firm but silky tannin and a great accompaniment to red meat dishes.
